Tallash Kantai

Tallash Kantai is a Writer and Team Lead with Earth Negotiations Bulletin, and a researcher at the Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law and Governance at the University of Strathclyde. For over a decade, she has focused on the chemicals and waste cluster of multilateral environmental agreements (the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm, and Mercury Conventions). She also closely follows the negotiations to set up a new treaty on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction, and discussions under the International Seabed Authority.
Her Ph.D research, which is funded by the One Ocean Hub, delves into the governance of ocean plastics at the international level. A Kenyan living in Scotland, she previously worked for the United Nations on REDD+ in Indonesia, and for the Africa Centre for Technology Studies in Kenya. She has a Master’s of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and a Bachelor’s of Arts in International Relations from the United States International University-Africa.
